The Healing Martial Arts™ (HMA) program is Hiruko’s flagship service. HMA is the active integration of physical expressive arts (with an emphasis on Tae Kwon Do), healing arts (Qigong, Tai Chi, and Acupressure) and contemplative practice.

It teaches participants, in an age appropriate way, a comprehensive set of life skills they can actively use for themselves and in their communities. These skills include:

  • Knowledge of and deep trust in one’s body
  • Steadfast self-confidence; deeply believing in oneself
  • A keen sense of self-awareness
  • Sharp focus and concentration
  • Ability to let go of mistakes and persevere; observable grit
  • Overcoming limiting beliefs
  • Ability to cope with pressure and stress
  • Courage and power to advocate for oneself with boldness and humility
  • Ability to create long-term powerful relationships

The HMA curriculum is creatively and continuously woven through the insights and innovations of the students, instructors, founders and advisers and it allows the student to observe, learn, adapt, and combine concepts in ways that are intuitive, motivational, empowering, and – most importantly – enjoyable.

The HMA method was designed by the Hiruko founders. Its core objective is to use the martial arts as a metaphor for being “Unstoppable” in life. The Hiruko black belt represents a commitment to personal excellence inside of the wide and open realm of possibilities available to each participant.

Tigers (4 years old)

Four year olds typically need more play time, and while they are starting to discover structure, and thrive with clear boundaries, they need a bit more wiggle room. This class uses the same concepts, methods and curriculum as the KinderDojo™ program, but its pace is more familiar to four year olds. The objective is to get students ready for KinderDojo™ in a way that makes them feel confident and happy. The class runs in three-month sessions, once per week, and it is taught on Saturdays only. The class is limited in size. Classes are 45 minutes long.

Juniors (8-14 years old)

The HMA program for Juniors is a journey of self discovery that starts with movement and self-expression through martial arts. Along with building a solid foundation in Tae Kwon Do, the program provides a framework for cultivating self-awareness, mindfulness, and vitality in a dynamic and powerful way. While safety and self-defense are taught, the program emphasizes the self-expressive aspects rather than the combative side of martial arts. Taught by experienced athletes the program is appropriate for all ages, and it provides the opportunity for an excellent cardio vascular and strength training program, while incorporating stretching and relaxation.
